Insurance and You
At the present time, Finding Your Way Psychological Services is accepting Alaska Medicaid, Aetna, Premera Blue Cross, and Optum; I am out of network with other insurers at this time, and you will need to check to see if out-of-network providers are covered. I will be able to provide you with a monthly superbill to be able to provide to your insurance company for reimbursement. Remember that you are financially responsible if insurance does not cover psychological services. These companies cover individual therapy, and psychological testing too, if certain criteria are met. Due to COVID-19, you will need to check with your insurance provider to ensure that telehealth is a covered service. Additionally, please check to see if there is a co-pay as some insurance companies may be waiving co-pays for mental health services during this time.
Insurance is useful because it helps keep out-of-pocket costs as minimal as possible. However, there are questions that you will need to answer before your first session. In order to maximize your time seeing Dr. McConnell, you will need to check the following information beforehand with your insurance company:
- What is my deductible? Has my deductible been met?
- Do I have a co-pay? How much is it?
- What will my insurance cover after my deductible has been met?
- What are the number of sessions I have with Dr. McConnell?
These insurance companies and Dr. McConnell have agreed to a specific rate of services after the deductible has been applied. If you have insurance and choose not to use your insurance with Dr. McConnell, you will be charged out-of-pocket the full negotiated rate that Dr. McConnell has with your insurance plan. This is done as a requirement by the insurance companies; they consider it fraudulent if Dr. McConnell charges a different rate than what the insurance company would reimburse. Your fee, should you choose not to use insurance, will be paid out-of-pocket at the time of session.
Please call your insurance company to determine the requirements for you to be able to see Dr. McConnell. He completely understands that working with insurance companies is time-consuming and difficult. He wants you to maximize your time with him during your session without having to use your time calling your insurance and figuring out what information is needed to work with your specific insurance company and plan.
